3 Things We’ve Learned Working From Home

For Photographers

Today we are sharing 3 things we’ve learned while working from home! Working from home definitely presents its own set of challenges, but is also really awesome! Devin has been working from home full time since May 2015, and I joined him this past December! We have learned so many things during that time! Here are 3 of them….

1. Make a Schedule!

If you want to get stuff done, you need a schedule, or at least a list of things to accomplish that day! It can be really hard working at home with so many distractions and no boss looking over your shoulder to see how long you’ve been playing Candy Crush! There are so many wonderful apps and web-based softwares that help with schedule and workflow! We especially love Tave because it helps us keep track of our tasks and to-dos for each client! If you know anything about me, I am a firm believer in making lists! Devin is not. He doesn’t like having to keep track of it, having lists everywhere, etc. so it’s nice that we can have a running list (that I manage with my amazing Emily Ley Simplified Planner 😉 ) on Tave that where can see his tasks, updated by me 🙂

2. It gets lonely sometimes!

Working from home can get lonely! Even though we work together, we work in separate offices! We each have different roles in the business, and we each work in very different environments… one perfect for an extrovert, and one perfect for an introvert! I’m sure you can guess who’s who 😉 We are a part of our local Tuesdays Together group through The Rising Tide Society– this helps us get out there and have some conversation with other adults instead of just watching Nashville all day on Hulu! We love meeting people, and getting to talk about our craft, and hear about how other people are changing lives in our community! It’s important to us to have people in our lives that understand us as creatives, and we love connecting with others … especially over food!

3. There’s LOTS of distractions!

There are WAY more distractions than our desk jobs! We have computers… that don’t block Facebook… TV, our 2 adorable cats, laundry, dirty dishes, errands, and the list goes on! While it is SO nice being able to run errands during “work hours,” it can easily become something that pulls us away from getting stuff done! I’m typically the errand runner because I’m a little better at staying on task than Devin, and not making extra stops… although Starbucks usually has some weird power over me pulling me in for a latte! But hey, more coffee = more work, am I right?!
