We got to check another one off of the list of our 101 things to do in 1001 days!
At the past wedding Kathryn and I did, we made one of the smartest decisions we have made so far! We made a same day, wedding reception slideshow. We originally got the idea from Jasmine Star’s blog and thought it would be a great idea to try. Because we had a little extra time before the cocktail hour, we decided to show it then as well as during the reception.
There were a few key tips we did to make this a success, not only for the event but also for our business.
1) Its not about you! We didn’t want to make this about us so we didn’t put business cards down. What we did instead was put event cards down that can direct guests to the online gallery where they can view the completed album and buy prints. Our website was also listed at the bottom. We set down 100 of the cards and there were less than 50 left at the end of the night!
Here is a picture of our event cards for this event.
2) Plan ahead! We also planned ahead so that we wouldn’t miss key shooting time with the wedding party to make a slideshow.
3) Don’t over edit! We took anywhere between 30-50 pictures and did mild touch-ups on them. remember, this isn’t the final product! You don’t need to made the perfect edits, most of the stuff we did were quick black and white or color correction edits.
This turned out being a hit! The bride and groom had people complimenting them all night on how great the two of them looked and how the pictures turned out. The bride and groom were really excited to see the photos and how they turned out, and the parents were able to rest assured that their money spent on the photographer was money well spent! We also have already seen the traffic on our website increase because of it.

The above picture is the Bride, Groom and bride’s mother checking out the slideshow during the reception. I loved hearing the ooh’s and ahh’s during some of the pictures!
